We have had quite a few calls from interested parties who have been promised every Premiership game with English commentary for the 2012-2013 season.

This is possible… But also highly illegal.. Please beware!!!!

If you have been offered this, you will probably have been told that you WILL require an ADSL or broadband connection in to your pub, this is for one of 2 reasons, and on both accounts HIGHLY ILLEGAL!!!

Card Sharing

Card sharing is when a satellite receiver uses the internet to get the encryption codes from a remote server rather than from a viewing card inserted into the satellite receiver. The television pictures are still received via satellite but the ‘codes’ used to clear the scrambled picture are received via the internet.

Streaming

Streaming uses the internet to physically receive the television pictures unlike card sharing. Suppliers will often try and sell you an Abu Dhabi Sports package that receives all UK premiership games with English commentary. They may even supply you with an official subscription card making it look like this is 100% legal.

Abu Dhabi Sports is located outside the EU and therefore even if you could receive the signal in the UK via satellite and you had a legitimate subscription card, you would still be liable to prosecution as the broadcast was not meant for the EU market.

Summary

Both systems are highly illegal, and due to last seasons European Court verdict, you can pretty much rest assured that the FA and Sky will be trying to prosecute as many people as possible for showing Premier League games illegally.
